Martha Breen

Martha (Marty), she/they, is an intimacy coordinator, theatremaker, writer, and performer from Wicklow, Ireland. They have worked for over a decade across film, TV, cabaret, comedy and theatre as a multidisciplinary artist, with top international film companies and major Irish and UK theatres. As a graduate of the Lir Academy, Ireland’s acting conservatoire, she has extensive training in movement and physical theatre, with particular interest in Laban pedagogy and clowning as means of unlocking actors' movement expression. Their extensive experience as an actor and theatremaker gives them a unique insight into the demands of both performers and directors, and she prides herself on her practical approach while facilitating an empowering, straightforward and comfortable experience for all.

Empowered consent is at the core of their artistic practice, which is deeply rooted in amplifying queer voices and confronting inequality and power dynamics, as their recent acclaimed solo show BITCH highlights, which won Radical Spirit of the Fringe 2024 and is set to tour internationally in the coming years. She also specialises in working with young people through consent based performance practices, incorporating her professional acting and drama teacher training with on set skills when working with minors. She has worked as a chaperone for minors onset, and has extensive experience with young people as Artistic Director of Mr. Sands Youth Theatre, Bray (2020-24), guest facilitating classes at The Lir Academy, and teaching with Betty Ann Norton Theatre School, Ireland's longest-standing theatre school. Their work with improv troupe Broad Strokes and large ensemble productions makes them a wonderful collaborator and improviser, seamlessly able to work as part of a team without ego to achieve an experience of catharsis, community and cohesion in achieving a common goal.
