EVENT DESCRIPTION

Film sets are inherently emotionally charged spaces. Add the stress of filming an intimacy scene and the stakes quickly escalate, and if the tension boils over, it’s often the IC who can either become a target or bring calm to the situation. The difference between the two outcomes? Emotional Intelligence.

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to recognize and regulate emotions, in order to guide thinking and behavior, and to manage relationships. The course combines theory with practice, empowering participants to take the skills learned in the course and apply them immediately to the real scenarios we encounter on set.

This interactive course will teach participants to:

  • Identify emotions in self and others and labeling them. Interpreting emotion in faces, posture, gesture, voice, and physiology

  • Understand emotions, the causes and the consequences of emotions and how they influence attention, thinking, decisions and behavior

  • Use emotions to facilitate the task at hand; knowing how and when to express emotions appropriately with different people and in multiple contexts

  • Manage emotions: using effective cognitive and behavioral strategies, to prevent, reduce, initiate, maintain, and enhance emotions

This course will be taught by IPA-certified intimacy coordinator Rebecca Johannsen (see below for more info about her) and facilitated by IPA founder Amanda Blumenthal. The class will be a combination of lecture and break out group sessions, which will allow students to practice the skills they are learning in class.

By the end of this class, you will have had the opportunity to:

  • Learn about your own EQ, the areas of strength and how to leverage those

  • Practice proven EQ exercises and learning tools that you can use yourself and with your crew members, family members and others

  • Learn how to read people better, including the hidden messages in body language

  • Strengthen your own emotional intelligence

Participants will be asked to complete an intake form before the start of class.
